Family of seven loses home in fire
By Joel Spears
CHURCH HILL - According to Church Hill Fire Chief David Wood, a passerby on U.S. Highway 11W reported a blaze on Saturday that destroyed the home of Terry and Rhonda Trent, located at 200 Bernard Avenue near Volunteer High School. Wood said the call was dispatched at 9:39 a.m. and by the time fire crews arrived on the scene flames were coming through the roof. Church Hill Fire Department was aided by Mount Carmel, Carter's Valley and Goshen Valley fire departments. The chief said water had to be shuttled in because there are no fire hydrants in the immediate area. However, he added that the departments did not have a problem supplying water to the blaze and noted that there are no water mains large enough in the area to support hydrants. The Trent family, which includes five children, lost all of their clothing and personal items in the blaze. None of the family members were home when the fire started.
