Tuesday.
ROGERSVILLE - Kevin Helton's baseball team continues to make strides, if not notches in the win column.
"These kids swing the bats well," Helton said. "We just can't get the timely hitting. We just can't get one when we need it."
The 0-6 Chiefs dropped an away-and-home series to Morristown East this week, losing Monday, 14-5, and 10-5 Tuesday.
"Coach (Christopher) Gillies has got his team ready to go," Helton said. "They play hard, they run the bases hard, they hit the ball extremely well, and they throw strikes. They don't make very many mistakes," Helton said.
"This is probably the most aggressive high school team I've ever seen running the bases. They must have had 10 stolen bases (Monday) night on us," he said.
"You don't make a mistake against them. You get the ball up and they drive it out of the park or hit doubles off you," Helton continued.
"Matt (Ondak) just got a little tired and got the ball up. And when you get the ball up against East, they're going to drive the ball hard on you," Helton said. "Both Morristown teams are always tough, East or West, either one, you can expect a war at either place you go to."
Helton said that elusive first win will happen some time, hopefully soon.
"It's got to fall sometime, I told Coach Gillies, because we hit 'at 'em' balls. He told me I must be from the South and I said, 'Yes, you're right. I have 'at 'em' balls all the time - we hit right at 'em all the time.
"We just have to keep swinging the sticks," Helton said.
"We're going to hang in there. We're going to hit the ball hard. We're going to play hard every game, every inning.
"We talked last night. We have to play a seven inning ballgame. We can't just play three or four. We had one bad inning and it cost us."
