ROGERSVILLE - A Hawkins County teacher who
was reportedly recorded on a 911 tape stating she would kill her 18-year-old daughter was charged
with aggravated assault last week and will remain on the job while the incident is under
investigation. According to a Hawkins County Sheriff's Office report, Veleka
Sharon Setsor, 39, 102 Gordon Road, Rogersville, was charged February 3 after Deputy Ethan Calhoun
responded to domestic dispute call at the address involving the mother and daughter.
Setsor is a teacher at Hawkins Elementary School. "The matter is
currently under review by our office and local authorities. Due to the sensitive nature of
this matter we can't comment on specifics," Hawkins County Director of Schools Charlotte Britton
said Tuesday. Britton said she and other central office personnel were at the
school Monday, the first day of classes since the incident. The director added a
representative was at the school Tuesday morning and "will be as long as it is
necessary." The director also said it is important for parents to realize the
safety of students is always the primary concern of school officials and that "a plan is in place"
to make certain all children are attending classes in a safe environment.
Calhoun's report of the incident states he talked with Eden Cheyenne
Setsor, 18, who told the deputy that during an argument her mother told her to "pack all of her
belongings and leave home." "According to the daughter, her mother then left
her bedroom and retrieved what appeared to be a rifle and threatened to kill her with it," the
deputy's report states. Veleka Setsor confirmed that she "did get what she
thought was a pellet rifle" and returned to the room, the deputy wrote. "The
mother denied making the threat, however Central Dispatch confirmed, on (a) recorded line, the
mother stating 'I will kill you,'" the report states. Setsor is scheduled to
be arraigned in Hawkins County General Sessions Court on February 25.
