ROGERSVILLE — On Tuesday, November 11, beginning at 10 a.m., Hawkins County veterans and residents will gather at the courthouse square in Rogersville to honor the county’s service men and women.
Presented by Joseph Rogers VFW Post 9543, the Veterans Day Program will also feature ringing of the bells 11 times at 11 a.m., followed by a fly over by the 1\230th Air Cavalry Squadron from McGhee Tyson Air National Guard Base in Alcoa.
Retired Captain Larry Wheeler of Rogersville will serve as master of ceremonies, and a flag ceremony will be performed by Cherokee and Volunteer high schools NJROTC units.
Former Congressman Bill Jenkins of Rogersville is also expected to attend along with other officials and officeholders.
VFW Rogersville Post 9543, Bulls Gap Post 5266 and Church Hill Post 9754 are also scheduled to present a rifle salute near the conclusion of the program.
For more information on the ceremony, call (423) 272-7423.
While the VFW sponsored event is the focus of Hawkins County’s Veterans Day remembrance, the county’s Cattleman’s Association has also invited all veterans to a meal at the association headquarters, located on Stanley Valley Road, near Highway 11W, following the ceremony.
On Tuesday evening, the Great Smoky Mountain Expo Center in Morristown will also host “Honoring Our Veterans,” from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m. with guest speaker Randy Kington and a performance by The Talleys.
Henard’s Chapel Baptist Church in Rogersville will offer transportation to any veteran who needs a ride to the program.  Those who are interested should call the church at 272-7676.
