ROGERSVILLE — A 22-year-old Church Hill woman was arrested Thursday afternoon for allegedly running over her boyfriend with her car then attempting to drag him into it.
“I was dispatched to a domestic dispute which had allegedly resulted in a female subject running over her male boyfriend with a vehicle on Highway 11W near Lake Forest Subdivision,” Hawkins County Sgt. Chad Gillenwater stated in his arrest report.
“While in route, I was advised by dispatch that the female had left the scene in a green Ford Escort,” Gillenwater said.
Police arrived at the scene to find Alfonso Rogue Vargas Campos, 32, 258 Choptack Road, Lot 9, leaning against a guardrail on the shoulder of Highway 11W.
Campos had assorted small red marks on his chest and stomach, Gillenwater said. “He was having pain in his chest region.”
“Mr. Campos spoke limited English, but was able to advise me that his girlfriend had run over him with a car after an argument,” Gillenwater said.
Campos was transported by Hawkins County EMS to Wellmont Hawkins County Memorial Hospital’s emergency room for treatment.
Meanwhile, officers from Rogersville Police Department located the alleged perpetrator, Ashley Brooke Mabe, 451 Payne Ridge Road, Church Hill, at Walmart.
While Rogersville officers detained Mabe, Gillenwater questioned three witnesses.
“All three witnesses stated that they had observed Mr. Campos walking down Highway 11W and a female sitting on the shoulder in her vehicle,” Gillenwater said.
“All witnesses stated that the driver’s door was standing open and as Mr. Campos was walking by the car, the female accelerated the vehicle in reverse, striking Mr. Campos with the door and knocking him to the ground,” Gillenwater reported.
“All three witnesses further stated that the female then got out of the car and attempted to drag Mr. Campos inside the vehicle,” Gillenwater said.
“Witnesses state that Mr. Campos appeared to be unconscious while Ms. Mabe was trying to drag him in the vehicle, at which time they approached her and adviser her not to move him. Ms. Mabe then allegedly got back into her vehicle and fled the scene eastbound on Highway 11W,” Gillenwater said. During questioning in front of Walmart, Mabe “stated that the couple was in a dispute when Mr. Campos got out of the vehicle. Ms. Mabe then stated that she then backed over Mr. Campos because he had assaulted her,” Gillenwater said.
Mabe was placed in custody for aggravated assault and leaving the scene of an accident. She is scheduled to appear in General Sessions Court Sept. 3.
