CHURCH HILL — Volunteer’s golf team made quick work of the competition on the links here on the first day of school in Hawkins County.

Cherokee and Volunteer were joined by David Crockett to make a threesome at Church Hill's Silver Lake Golf Course earlier Monday afternoon.

VHS Head Coach Dennis Anderson saw his high flying Falcon linksmen out-distance the Crockett Pioneers by 17 strokes on Volunteer's home course, shooting a combined 160, led by Medalist Lucas Armstrong, who carded an even par round of 36.

“It’s a good start, but to compete in our conference we're going to have to play better,” said Anderson after the twin win.

The Falcons’ other top four scorers that comprised the 160 Monday were Tyler Armstrong and Thomas Morrison, who each shot 41s, and Justin Wright, who offered up a 42.

Anderson’s brother, Donnie Anderson, saw Cherokee’s number one, Jordan Hood, enter the clubhouse with a 42, tied for the fourth lowest round among scored golfers from all three schools on Monday.    The Chiefs other top four performers included Lucas Singleton, who had a 47.  Andrew Long and Hunter Gladson both shot a 50.

Crockett’s number one, Travis Campbell, had a sub-40 round at 39.

The Chiefs are next in action Thursday afternoon when they start Inter Mountain Athletic Conference play at McDonald Hills when Morristown East visits.

Volunteer played in the Farmers and Miners Invitational Tuesday.  The event did not conclude until after press time.
