ROGERSVILLE — The last time a sitting congressman from the First District lost a primary was 1950 — unofficial results show that rare event happened again Thursday.
Although incumbent David Davis carried Hawkins County, unofficial results for the 12-county district show Roe with 25,918 votes and Davis with 25,458 — a 460 vote margin of victory.
Roe will face the winner of the Democratic primary, Rob Russell, and three independent candidates in November.
Burl W. Smith received 403 votes to defeat John D. Eidson, with 230 votes, in the race for the second district school board seat vacated by Robert Stidham.
Kathy Cradic retained her third district seat, defeating Clyda Trent, 222 votes to 166 votes. Incumbent Glenda Davis lost her re-election bid to challenger Michael B. Williams, who garnered 468 votes to Davis’ 387.
Board member Debbie Gladson Shedden retained her seventh district seat, defeating Shona Bare House 205 votes to 118 votes.
Incumbent Charles Fuller, first district, and newcomer Holly Greene Helton, seventh district, ran unopposed.
Republican Linda Kimbro won the fourth district commission seat, defeating Democrat Michelle Green and independent Larry Maysilles.
Richard Gabriel defeated Lewis Hopkins, Jr. in the Democratic Primary race for the ninth district state representative post. He will face incumbent Republican Mike Harrison and an independent candidate this fall.
