Six Chiefs, two Falcons named All-FRC

The Tennessee Secondary Schools Athletic Association crowned its five Division I state champions last week in the Blue Cross Bowl and the postseason accolades are now rolling in.

Six Cherokee Chiefs and two Volunteer Falcons were named to the All-Five Rivers Conference football team while another nine Chiefs and six Falcons received Honorable Mention.

Cherokee's contingent on the all-conference squad includes Austin Albright (Sr.), Chad Clark (Sr.), Thomas Gilliam (Jr.), Brian Milan (Jr.), Casey Sivert (Sr.) and Josh Wallace (Sr.)

Albright, a linebacker that saw time in Cherokee's offensive backfield as well, finished the season with 84 hits, three sacks, a safety and a fumble recovery. He rushed the ball 81 times for 518 yards, seven touchdowns and five two-point conversions.

Clark, a DB, had 46 tackles this season and three interceptions for the Chiefs.

Gilliam, from his linebacker spot, had 60 tackles, caused a fumble and blocked a point after attempt.

Milan was used in a number of rolls including quarterback, receiver, safety, punt returner and kick returner. On defense he had 43 tackles, two interceptions and a fumble recovery. He threw for a touchdown this season, caught for a touchdown, had an 83-yard punt return for a touchdown and a 97 yard kickoff return for a touchdown. He also led the conference in punt return yardage.

Sivert, a tight end, had 21 receptions for 370 yards and five touchdowns. He saw limited minutes on defense and had 15 tackles, a sack and a fumble recovery.

Wallace was Cherokee's leading rusher with 167 carries for 717 yards and eight touchdowns. He also had four two-point conversions.

Dakota Lee - T/DT (Jr.), Terrence Kersey - P/DB (So.), Steven Hall - G/DT (Jr.), Seth Ewing - QB (Sr.), Josh Scalf - T/DT (Sr.), Jonathan Zook - G/DT (Sr.), Josh Williams - G/DE (Jr.) and Josh Elkins - G/DE (Jr.) each received Honorable Mention for Cherokee.

Volunteer running back Brian Morelock and wide receiver Lucas Hurd were named All-Conference.

Ben Holt -TE/LB (Sr.), Keith Cradic - QB (So.), Justin Miller - WR/LB (Sr.), Jordan Sandidge - OL/LB (So.), Joe Wells - TE/LB (Sr.) and Taylor Blair - OL/DL (Jr.) earned Honorable Mention for the Falcons.

Volunteer did not provide statistics for its players this season.

The Five Rivers Player of the Year was Darius Ewing of Morristown West. His teammate Paul Haybegger was named the league's Defensive Player of the Year.

The Special Teams Player of the Year, despite Milan's exploits, was Daniel Boone's Mitch Masters.

The Athlete of the Year in the Five Rivers Conference was Boone's Sky Hicks.

West's Don Woods was named Coach of the Year, taking his team to a 13-1 record after having a losing season in 2004.

The Trojans advanced to the 4A state semi-finals where they hosted Maryville, falling 28-0 to the eventual state champion.
