ROGERSVILLE --- The Tractor Pull is a staple of country life in Hawkins County. Many know the lawn tractor as the lifesaver to hours of lawn mowing with a push mower. The lawn tractor is the savior to many teenagers who gets to mow many yards instead of just one and make money in the process.  Lakeview Volunteer Fire Department, along with many other organizations in East Tennessee, have periodic tractor pulling competitions in their areas. At Lakeview, their turn is on the third Saturday of each month during the summer. Saturday, an old baseball diamond on the property of the old Lakeview Elementary School served as the grounds where lawn tractors of many shapes, colors and sizes pulled the giant weight. When the competition first started, it was a hot evening with the sun sweltering on the grounds. Thanks to the tall pine trees near the start line, their shade would help the crowd and the competitors to cool off. As one tractor would pull the weight, another farm tractor would follow in reverse to pull the weight back to the start line for the next contestant. Competitors start as young as three years of age. They participate upon signing of an insurance waiver and a responsible adult, usually a parent or grandparent, walking alongside while they are pulling. The fire department sold concessions, which helped their budget. A 50-50 drawing was held to give away a cash prize. Children played nearby while others had their own rooting sessions. All who came had a reason to come, but it is safe to say that all had a good time. What a way to spend a Saturday evening.  Here are the results of the Third Saturday Tractor Pull at Lakeview Volunteer Fire Department: 900 lb. Kids: 1. Tyler Hopson; 2. Nick Moore; 3.
