CHURCH HILL --- Science Hill left little doubt who would win Tuesday’s game with Volunteer. The second-ranked Hilltoppers lived up to their billing at the Falcons’ Nest Tuesday, rolling to a 93-44 Big Eight Conference victory over the Falcons.Volunteer was never in this game as the Toppers hit 15 three-point goals to put the game away early.“Science Hill is as unselfish as any team I’ve seen,” Falcons’ coach Chris Brown said, “Sometimes I just like watching them play. The way they move the ball and get up and down the floor quickly, they put you defensively in a bad spot having to make adjustments in the half-court transition defense.”The Toppers, who won their 51st consecutive Big Eight Conference regular-season game, jumped out to a 23-12 first-quarter lead and was never headed. The Falcons (3-16, 0-8 in Big Eight) were led by sophomore Brad Halderman with 13 points. David McFarland added nine and Marquise Williams eight for VHS. Volunteer will travel to Daniel Boone for a Big Eight game Friday night. The Falcons have a two-game Sullivan County swing this coming week with a game Tuesday night at Dobyns-Bennett and another trip to the Model City Wednesday at Sullivan North.Lady Toppers 91, Lady Falcons 46CHURCH HILL --- In eerily similiar fashion, the girls’ game saw another barrage of three-point goals by the Lady Toppers.Science Hill drained 11 three’s in the Lady Toppers’ 91-46 win over Volunteer Tuesday.“Science Hill shot it well,” Lady Falcons’ coach Jerry Myers said, “They had a lot of different players hit the threes. We played a lot of zone to help our stamina, but they just shot us out of the zone.”The Lady Toppers built an 11-point lead early, 27-16, but extended it with runs in the second and fourth quarters.“We did a decent job at times against the press and I thought we did a decent job on offense in the first half,” Myers noted.Lindsey Overbey was tops for Volunteer (10-9, 3-5 in Big Eight) with 14 points. Savannah Felgemacher tossed in nine and Emily Armstrong six for the Lady Falcons.SCHEDULE UPDATE: Volunteer’s makeup game at Sullivan Central will be played on Thursday, February 7 at the Cougars’ Cage in Blountville.
