ROGERSVILLE - A Morristown woman has been arrested in the case of the February 1 robbery of an 86-year-old woman.
Molena Nichole Dowell, 39, 1544 Fish Hatchery Road, Morristown, was charged Wednesday afternoon with aggravated burglary, burglary and theft of property over $500.
Dowell, who was charged with theft and criminal trespass in neighboring Hamblen County in late January, faces the Hawkins County charges in connection with the alleged robbery of Louise Berry Howard.
The sheriff said Dowell reportedly sold a ring belonging to Howard at a pawn shop in Morristown.  Numerous other items of belonging to Howard were found to be in the vehicle Dowell was driving on February 1.
Although the initial report said the burglar was not injured, when arrested authorities discovered she actually had been wounded by the bullet.
"On February 6, 2013, Hawkins County detectives learned Ms. Dowell had a recent injury to her right arm that was consistent with a grazing bullet wound," the sheriff explained.  "During an interview of Ms. Dowell by detectives, she confessed to entering Mrs. Howard´┐Żs home on February 1, 2013, taking her property and struggling with Mrs. Howard and being struck by a shot which Mrs. Howard had fired at her from her pistol."
Dowell is currently housed in the Hawkins County Jail awaiting a bond hearing.
