CHURCH HILL - Employees and customers at Church Hill Post Office on Wednesday received a supersized package in the mail when a vehicle came crashing through the glass front on the building.
According to a press release from the city's Public Safety Director Mark Johnson, 85-year-old Bess Grevelle of 257 Jones Road, Church Hill, was attempting to park her 2011 Honda CRV in front of the post office, located at 131 E. Main Blvd., at approximately 11:30 a.m. when she inadvertently crashed through the building.
According to Johnson's press release, Grevelle stated that another driver was backing from a parking spot in front of the building, and "Ms. Grevelle tried to avoid the driver backing into her."
Grevelle reportedly accelerated forward, hit the sidewalk, then drove through the building's plate glass front.
The car came to rest inside the lobby, but no injuries were reported.  Grevelle's vehicle and the post office sustained heavy damage, but no damage totals were reported.
The post office remained open following the incident.
