As students, their parents and teachers prepare to head back to the classroom, on Sunday, Aug. 4, from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m., Expecting God's Help (EGH) will host prayer walks around each of Hawkins County's 19 schools, as well as Rogersville City School. To accomplish the task, EGH organizers have made two simple requests - that area churches come to the school nearest them to pray or that parents and students go to their school to pray. "We know that not all of the kids of a family go to the same school," Rodney Lane, an EGH organizer in Church Hill, said. "We also know that all the children in a church may not attend the same school. In that light, we ask that individual churches take it upon themselves to organize prayer groups for schools that are in their vicinity and for those schools that their students attend." By encouraging these things, Lane and other organizers said they hope all schools will have groups of people praying over them that day. "We just need area churches and committed Christians to step forward and come to pray at all our Hawkins County schools on August 5," Sue Thomas of Rogersville EGH said. "The well-being of our children, grandchildren, teachers, school administrators and our families is of the utmost importance and we need to be in prayerful concern for them all" stated Sue Thomas, an EGH organizer in Rogersville. A prayer list with suggested prayer concerns will be provided for those who plant to participate. Topics include respect for family, teachers and peers; wisdom to see and clearly understand all things and all situations; courage to do the right things; and kindness to speak kind words to one another. Individuals, groups or churches located in Church Hill that plan to participate in should contact Shirley Stapleton at (423) 357-7546. Schools in that coverage area include Surgoinsville Elementary and Middle; McPheeter's Bend Elementary; Carter's Valley Elementary; Volunteer High School; Church Hill Elementary; Church Hill Intermediate; Church Hill Middle; and Mount Carmel Elementary. Tim and Rhonda Fields will coordinate the Rogersville prayer walks at Keplar Elementary; Mooresburg Elementary; Bulls Gap School; St. Clair Elementary; Hawkins Elementary; Joseph Rogers Primary; Rogersville Middle; Rogersville City; Cherokee High School; and Clinch School. The Fields' may be reached at 754-3539. "It is our hope and prayer that once we get these groups organized for prayers at each individual school that they will continue to meet regularly at the school and continue to cover it in prayer," Rhonda Fields concluded. Individuals who cannot attend due to physical disabilities, or previous commitments are asked to pray in the same two-hour time frame on Sunday, Aug. 4.
