CHURCH HILL - Last Monday, a failure by one driver to yield to westbound traffic on 11W led to a fatal accident in Church Hill.
At 4:30 p.m. a 17-year-old Mount Carmel driver drove a 1997 Buick Century westbound on Highway 11W as it approached Old Union Road.
Terry D. Jenkins, 62, Church Hill was traveling southbound on Old Union Road on a 2008 Bashan Scooter. Jenkins attempted to make a left turn onto Highway 11W, but "failed to yield to traffic already traveling on the highway and was struck by the Buick, according to a press release regarding the accident.
Church Hill Police Department (CHPD) was notified of the crash and both CHPD and Church Hill Emergency Medical Services (CHEMS) responded to the scene. Although Jenkins was transported by CHEMS to Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center, in Kingsport, he was pronounced dead as a result of the injuries he sustained from the crash.
The juvenile driving the automobile was wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident and the vehicle's airbag did deploy. Authorities did not charge the driver in regards to the accident.
