If you are looking for a getaway this summer for a couplehours or a couple of days
River Place on the Clinch (RPC) is the perfectdestination. And the best part is that it's only a
short drive from HawkinsCounty at 2788 Highway 70, in Kyles Ford, Tenn.
River Place on the Clinch is a non-profit business started in 2007 by
ClinchPowell Resource Conservation and Development Council. The building had been atthe location for
decades before the organization, along with volunteers fromAmericorp, renovated the property and
created a space that includes a market,cafe, water activities, campground and cabin rentals.
"The organization wanted to help the county grow and bring new people into
thearea," Rhonda Stewart, Head Cashier at RPC, said. "It also helped to bringemployment to the local
people."
The café was the first feature to open at the property and has
become a populareatery with people from all around the region. The restaurant features
weeklyspecials including catfish every Wednesday and a steak dinner each Fridayevening, along with
home-cooked options for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
The property offers
several air-conditioned cabins for rent that includeseveral amenities including a full kitchen and
all linens needed for your stay.Clinch River Conservation Center and Retreat, a restored, spacious
home, thatonce served as the Testerman family home, can also be rented for familyreunions, large
social gatherings or conferences.
Individuals looking for a day trip can
rent canoes, rafts, kayaks, and floatingtubes from RPC and reservations are suggested as water
activities fill upquickly during the summer months. The staff transports individuals
upstreamaccording to how long you would like to float.
The market
at RPC also offers many staples of a small general store, fromgrocery items, to camping and fishing
supplies, along with several souvenirsand locally-made items.
"We are
always adding new things all the time," Stewart said. "We value ourcustomers and we want them to
have a good time while they are here."
