ROGERSVILLE - Rogersville Arts Council (RAC) will begin its free "Launching Your Creative Spirit" workshops on Tuesday, Feb. 9.
The first class will be "Arts and Crafts for Kids," covering several techniques taught by artist Sue Hurley at the Local Artist Gallery.
"The freedom to make art and be creative can be an important part of a child's life," Hurley said. "That's why workshops like these are so important."
The classes are designed for children ages 7-14 years old and will be held on four consecutive Tuesdays, 3:30 p.m. until 5 p.m.
"The Rogersville Arts Council strives to enhance the community by offering cultural events and activities for young and old alike," RAC President Debbie Beal said.
"Launching Your Creative Spirit" began two years ago, Beal said, in an effort to offer creative workshops for people in Hawkins County and the surrounding area, regardless of their financial means.
"Sometimes a workshop can lead to an art-related occupation," she added.
The workshops are funded by a matching Arts Builds Communities (ABC) grant from the Tennessee Arts Commission.
During the next four months workshops will be offered to children and adults. However, class size is limited and early registration is encouraged. To reserve a space call (423) 921-0288. Special needs children are welcome.
In the past RAC has offered classes in Chinese water color painting and calligraphy, lampworking, pottery, broom making, stained glass, puppet making, storytelling and womens essentials.
