ROGERSVILLE - Get ready to sing the blues
and move to the groove on Friday, July 3 as the Rogersville Arts Council brings husband and wife
singing duo Blue Mother Tupelo (BMT) to the Main Street Cruise In.
BMT is the
husband and wife team of Ricky Davis - who performs on acoustic and electric guitars, dobro, and
vocals - and Micol Davis - who plays the piano, tambourine and also does vocals.
The two began to perform together in 1995. Soon the couple's
musician friends including drummers, bassists, harmonica players, fiddle players, saxophonists,
keyboardists and auxiliary percussionists began to sit in.
However, BMT enjoys
their live performances in the original "Davis Duo" format, as a trio with the addition of drums or
bass, or as a 4-piece combo with bass and drums. Unique, passionate, inspired and unaffected by
musical genres, Blue Mother Tupelo is pure heart and soul.
BMT tours primarily
through the Southern and Midwestern United States, but also does shows across the U.S. and
internationally performing at festivals, concerts, clubs, house concerts, picnics and just about any
other type of events.
Blue Mother Tupelo averages around 200 live performances
per year.
They have shared the stage with The Subdudes, Sonny Landreth, and
Otha Turner's Rising Star Fife and Drum Band, to name just a few. They have also shared PRI's
Mountain Stage lineup with Charlie Musselwhite, Blues legend Robert Lockwood, Jr. and Guster.
The group has also been nominated several years in a row as "Best Acoustic
Blues Act" and Micol as "Female Vocalist of the Year" by the Music City Blues Society in
Nashville.
Their song, "Home", has been included on a compilation CD to
benefit the Habitat for Humanity of Clarksdale, Mississippi.
The July 3rd
Cruise In will begin at 5:30pm on July 3 in Downtown Rogersville.
Vintage cars will be on display from 5:30 p.m. until 9 p.m. along Main Street and its side streets.
Blue Mother Tupelo will begin their free performance at 6:30 p.m.
In addition to classic cars and entertainment, the evening will also include
inflatables for children and downtown restaurants will be open for business.
People are encouraged to bring their lawn chairs to enjoy the entertainment.
