SURGOINSVILLE - Food, fun and plenty of ice cream will highlight the Second Annual Firemen's Ice Cream Supper on Saturday, sponsored by the
Surgoinsville Riverfront Festival Committee.
    Chairman Merrell Graham said he and other committee members look forward to the event and he encouraged the community as well as area fire fighters from stations across the county to come enjoy the afternoon.
    The supper is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. at Riverfront Park.    
    While its purpose is to honor area firemen, it is also one of four events to help raise money for the Surgoinsville Riverfront Festival, held in September.
    "Last year, at our first ice cream supper, all the county's fire department's were represented," Graham said.  "Each department brought a vehicle and there were 70 to 80 in attendance, along with the citizens and people from surrounding communities who attended."
    While the event is free and will feature live music, karaoke, cake walks, games, a dunking booth, and other entertainment, Graham said a small charge for food will benefit the committee's fundraising efforts.
    The menu, prepared by members of the Riverfront Festival Committee, will include hot dogs for $1.50, hamburgers for $2.50, drinks for $1, corn dogs, and of course ice cream.
    "The committee has worked hard to bring this to Surgoinsville and they have really pulled together a first-class event," Graham said.  
    The Firemen's Ice Cream Supper is one of four events, Graham said, that has been planned for Surgoinsville this year.
    "These events are a great way to help bring the community and the county together a few days each year and they offer citizens something extra to look forward to here at home," Graham concluded.  "I hope everybody will come see for themselves, enjoy the entertainment and food, and honor our area fire fighters."
