CHURCH HILL — Site plans have finally been approved for a proposed Walgreen’s Pharmacy in Church Hill. At the city’s October regional planning commission meeting on Monday, members accepted the plan which was originally reported to begin in August. Plans to construct Walgreen’s in Church Hill were announced at the Planning Commission on June 2 when a concept plan was approved for the former site of Mountaineer Restaurant. At the time, Dan Britton, a representative of the firm which presented the plan, said pending site plan approval the project could begin within two and a half months. He also said the 13,650 square-foot store will be designed similar to the other Hawkins County Walgreen’s locations in Allandale and Rogersville. The project called for abandonment to a portion of Clark Court that divided the property and, according to the developers, was necessary to join the former restaurant property with a parcel of land in Central Plaza Shopping Center. As of Monday evening no construction date was given for the project to begin. The Mountaineer building has however been partially demolished several weeks, the tin roof and dormers having been the only parts removed. In other business, the commission gave site plan approval for a two million gallon water tank scheduled for construction at the end of a cul-de-sac on Jefferson Avenue. Funds for the $1 million project were announced by Governor Bredesen’s office in July and will include $500,000 in local money. Copyright © 2009, The Rogersville Review |
