(Last modified: 2008-08-21 16:08:51) Source: The Rogersville Review Members of Kelly’s Heroes captured seven first place awards and brought home both the Men’s and Women’s Grand Championships in kumite at the Hall of Fame Tournament in July. Additionally, a number of Heroes were nominated for Hall of Fame awards and two, instructor Jerry Sullivan and student Amberly Jones, took top honors at the Hall of Fame awards banquet. Brandon Henderson was first in Kumite and won the Men’s Grand Championship in kumite while Theresa Barnette was first in kumite, second in kata and first in weapons kata and she captured the Women’s Grand Championship. Four other members of the school won first place kumite honors in their respective classes — Alex Brown, Daniel Banks, Marisa McKie and Hunter Rogers. Caleb Kenner had a third place in kumite and Jones and Kurt Markham each had second place kumite finishes. A half dozen members of the Rogersville dojo were nominated for Hall of Fame Awards. Amberly Jones won the Young Female Karate Ka of the Year honor. Kelly’s Heroes instructor Jerry Sullivan was named Sensei of Sensei of the Year. Kim Henson was nominated for Female Karate Ka of the Year. Henderson was nominated for the Male Competitor of the Year and Male Karate Ka of the Year awards. Barnett was nominated for both Female Competitor and Female Instructor of the Year and Rogers was nominated for the Young Male Karate Ka of the Year. Fellow Hero Dave Park, of Park’s School of Karate in Dayton, Tn. was nominated for the Spirit of Isshinryu awards. Copyright © 2009, The Rogersville Review |
