Jo Anne Greene-Beatty, age 58, of Rogersville, died Sunday,
November 2, 2008 at her residence following a brief illness.
Ms. Greene-Beatty was a
school teacher having served with the Hawkins County School System and was choir director of
Rogersville Presbyterian Church. She was a graduate of University of Tennessee with a Bachelor of
Science Degree in Music Education and a Masters Degree in vocal performance. Ms. Greene earned
her EDS degree from Lincoln Memorial University. She performed as a soloist with the Knoxville
Choral Society, Greenville Symphony and the Durham Choral Society. Ms. Greene was a featured
soprano soloist on a nationally released recording of Carmina Burana with the Durham Choral
Society. While living in New York, Ms. Greene taught voice and piano and was the soprano
soloist at Church of the Ascension. She taught voice and piano at Knoxville College, Hiwassee
College and Roane State Community College. She was a member of Rogersville United Methodist
Church. Ms. Greene was preceded in death by her father, Gale Kyle Greene and sister, Myrland
Nell Greene.
Survivors include son, Earnest Lee Beatty of Asheville, NC; Mother,
Marguerite Jarvis Greene of Rogersville; sister, Mary Gayle Greene McClune and husband, David of
Boone, NC; uncles, N.D. Jarvis and wife, Mary of Rogersville, L. C. Jarvis and wife Rosalie of
Knoxville and Roy L. Greene and wife, Helen of Rogersville.
Calling hours will be 5:00
P.M. to 7:00 P.M., Tuesday, November 4, 2008 at Broome Funeral Home,
Rogersville.
Funeral service will be conducted at 7:00 P.M., Tuesday, November 4, 2008
in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Gerald Jones officiating. Graveside service will be 11:00
A.M.,Wednesday, November 5, 2008 at Highland Cemetery.
