Winifred "Winnie" Wolfe Geiger

    Winifred “Winnie” Wolfe Geiger, age 83 of Rogersville, passed away on the morning of Monday, August 18, 2008 at Morristown-Hamblen Healthcare System. 

    Winnie was known among friends as a talented needle-crafter and a lover of animals.  Throughout the years, Winnie made beautiful cross-stitches as gifts that are displayed throughout her friends and family’s homes, as well as her church.  Another hobby of Winnie’s was her flowers.  She loved to grow them, especially lilies.  Her favorite lily, and the one she was most proud of was her Crinum that grew outside her back door. 

    Winnie was raised in Elizabethton.  She graduated high school from Science Hill.  Following graduation, she attended Tusculum College for two years and transferred to Duke University, where she earned a degree in Embryology.  Winnie was an active member in the Rogersville community until her health interfered.  She was a school teacher and taught for many years.  She taught at Tusculum College, Keenburg (Elizabethton), and the Rogersville City School.  She was a Girl Scout troop leader.  She was an active member fo the Rogersville Presbyterian Church, helping with activities such as Sunday School, Women of the Church, and Bible School.  She also served as a deacon and elder.  Winnie was preceded in death by her parents, William and Margaret Wolfe.

    She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Henry Geiger, Jr.; daughter, Mary Lou Geiger; son, Clarence H. “Sandy” Geiger, III and wife, Lauriann, all of Rogersville. Calling hours were 5 to 7 p.m., Tuesday, August 19, 2008 at Broome Funeral Home, Rogersville.  Funeral service was conducted 7 p.m., Tuesday, August 19, 2008 in the funeral home chapel with Dr. David L. Hale and Rev. Don Rose officiating.  Graveside service were 11 a.m., Wednesday, August 20, 2008 at McKinney Cemetery.
