Hobert Tilson, age 86 of Van Hill Community, Rogersville, died Sunday, January 17, 2010 at his residence after an extended illness.
He was retired from Tennessee Eastman and was a farmer. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Biloxi. Mr. Tilson was a member of V.F.W. Post 9543 and American Legion Post 21 of Rogersville.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Porter Tilson, sons, Jackie Tilson and James D."J.D." Tilson; sister, Dorothy McClain and parents, Farce M. and Luna Mowell Tilson.
Survivors include three daughters, Charlotte "Charlie"Tipton and husband, Wayne of Rock Springs; Jan Pass and husband, Jerry of Greeneville and Betty "Peg" Lavinder and husband, Danny of Fall Branch; one son, Jerry Tilson and wife, Barbara of Van Hill; daughter-in-law, Karen Roberts Tilson of Greeneville; grandchildren, Amy Tilson Shelton and husband, Jason, Tracie Benko Thompson and husband, Shawn, Allison Tilson Weems and husband, Jason, Brian Benko and wife, Esther, Jamie Tilson and wife, Becky, Whitney Tipton Weems and husband, Justin and Jeremy Tilson; great grandchildren, Jamy Leigh Shelton and Robert Shelton, Bailee and McKinlee Weems, Ethan Benko, Walker and Laela Lane Jewel Weems and Adrian Von Tilson; step grandchildren, Jason Pass and wife, Gena and Jeremy Pass and wife, Tammy; step-great grandchildren, Lindy Pass, Colby Pass, Emery Pass and Berkley Pass; sisters-in-law, Margaret Rogers, Judy Porter and Lorraine Robertson; special friend, Betty Light; a number of nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
Calling hours will be 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, January 19, 2010 at Broome Funeral Home and other times at the home of Jerry and Barbara Tilson, 4250 Van Hill Rd., Rogersville. Funeral service will be conducted at 8 p.m. Tuesday, January 19, 2010 in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Bobby Bernard and the Rev. Harold Morelock officiaiting. Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, January 20, 2010 at Zion United Methodist Church Cemetery with military honors provded by Hawkins County Color Guard.
